News Nuggets – August 2014

Dear Milton Society of America members,

1. FINAL PASSAGES
Stella Revard, the 1997 MSA Honored Scholar and long-time friend and mentor to many, passed away, quietly and peacefully, on July 14, 2014. Her name will be included in the January 2015 MSA Annual Meeting and Dinner program. I have contacted the PMLA so that her name will be included in the “In Memoriam” of the PMLA and webpage. You can find her obituary with a link to the funeral home’s webpage to express condolences at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/macon/obituary.aspx?pid=171777059

2. CAREER PASSAGES
Please send me recent news about completion of MAs and PhDs, obtaining jobs, promotions, fellowships, and the like by MSA members, including yourself, so that we can all see that, yes, indeed, we Miltonists are succeeding in the field. I know you’re out there! (No news of publications, though, please, because I believe the annual MSA Dinner and Meeting program will start including those again, back by popular demand.)
To start it off, here are 2 bits of news:
•Wendy Furman-Adams was named the Albert Upton Professor of English at Whittier College
•Angelica Duran was promoted to Full Professor at Purdue University effective August 1 , 2014

3. 2015 MLA ANNUAL CONVENTION
Great news is that two MSA panels have been selected for inclusion in the 2015’s presidential theme, Negotiating Sites of Memory: “Milton and the Politics of Periodization” and “Transatlantic Milton.” In the “MSA Treasurer’s Nuggets” following whenever the 2015 MLA Convention program is posted, I will advise you of specifics about the Milton-related and MSA-sponsored and –supported panels (I know of a couple of tentative dates and times, but as we used to say, there’s many a slip between cup and lip [i.e., things can change]).

4. KEEP US UPDATED
Please make sure to pass on to me A) any information you believe would be of interest to MSA members and B) any updates on your contact information.

Many thanks, tesoros.
